How to use every feature in LawTrust Web.

Getting started
- Open https://app.lawyertrustaccount.com.
- Sign in with your LawTrust username and password (admin account from purchase / Client registration, or a team user your admin created).
- A Web subscription has full access. Desktop-only plans get a 7-day Web trial from first sign-in; after that, subscribe to a Web plan on the Purchase page.
- After sign-in you land on Trust Account — clients on top, deposits and checks below.
Need a subscription? Purchase LawTrust (choose Desktop or Web).
Desktop vs Web
Purchase offers one product at a time — Desktop or Web (not a combined bundle).
- LawTrust Desktop — Windows PC app, licensed by computers (1 / 2 / 3 / 4+ PCs). Local
.mdbdata; check printing on your printer. - LawTrust Web — browser app, licensed by users who sign in (1 / 2 / 3 / 4+ users). Cloud data; works on PC, laptop, tablet, or phone.
- Desktop subscribers keep using Desktop as usual. They may try Web for 7 days, then need a Web plan to continue in the browser.
- To switch products later: cancel the old PayPal plan, subscribe to the other on the Purchase page, and (for Web) import your desktop CSV if you are moving data to the cloud.
- New to Web with no username yet? On Purchase → Web, choose I’m new — create my LawTrust Web admin account, then pick a plan and pay with PayPal.
Password
- Forgot password? On the sign-in page, enter your username or account email. Open the link we email (valid 1 hour) and choose a new password.
- Change password while signed in: sidebar footer → Password (or Account tools). Enter current password, then the new one twice.
- Admins change the main Client registration password. Team users change only their own login. While View as is active, Change password updates that team user’s password.
- Avoid quotes and
\ ` ;in passwords (they can break older account storage). - If you get no reset email, confirm the address on file or contact jagjeet8704@gmail.com.
Home
Trust Account shows Client Information on top and Detailed Entries underneath.
- Click a client to highlight them, then use Deposit or Write Check. Those open as popups on this page.
- New Client, Edit, and Ledger also open as popups over Trust Account — not separate pages.
- Plan and renewal show at the top for the account admin.
- Use the left sidebar for Reconcile, Reports, Team users (admin), Account, Preferences, Backup, and Import.
Clients
Manage your trust clients and contact details.
- Search by name, file #, attorney, or email. Sort by clicking Name / File # / Attorney.
- Filter Active, Archived, or All.
- Click a client name to select them on Trust Account.
- New Client / Edit / Deactivate are on the Client Information toolbar. New Client and Edit open as a popup. Attorney, cell, fax, website, and date opened are on that form. You can add an opening deposit when creating a client.
- Deactivate archives the client. If uncleared items exist, you’ll get a warning — those items stay on Master Ledger in red. Restore from Archived. Delete forever only after archive.
- Export CSV downloads your client list (or this client’s entries from Detailed Entries).
- IOLTA interest: use a client named Interest (same process as desktop).
Ledger
All deposits and debits for your clients.
- Open Ledger for the latest firm-wide activity, or open a client first for a running balance and Actual Balance.
- Search by check #, payee, memo, file #, client name, or a date (YYYY-MM-DD or M/D/YYYY).
- Filter by status: All, Cleared (C), or Not cleared (NC).
- Sort by date, check #, payee, or client — or click column headers.
- Deposit and Write Check are separate buttons. Write Check saves the debit; Save & Print opens a printable voucher (paper check layouts stay on Desktop).
- Reconcile, Export CSV, Ledger Report, Print Report, and (per client) Un-clear All are on the toolbar.
Add / edit transactions
- Choose the client, date, and whether the entry is a Deposit or Debit (check).
- Enter amount, optional check #, payee, and memo/details.
- Set initial status to C (cleared) or NC (not cleared).
- Edit or delete a deposit or check from Detailed Entries / the edit screen.
- If a debit leaves the client balance negative, you’ll see a warning after save (or a block, if set in Preferences).
Cleared status (C / NC)
- Select one or more Detailed Entries rows (checkbox or click the row), then use Change Status → C or NC. All selected rows update at once.
- You can still click C or NC in the Status column to toggle a single row.
- C = cleared at the bank; NC = still outstanding.
- Un-clear All (on a client ledger) marks every cleared item for that client back to NC — useful when restarting a reconcile.
Reconcile (Master Ledger)
Match uncleared items to your bank statement.
- Shows uncleared (NC) items only.
- Displays Actual balance (all transactions), Cleared balance, and count of uncleared items.
- Click NC on a row to mark it cleared as you match your bank statement.
- Filter by client or search; sort by Check # to group deposits.
Reports
Printable ledgers, summaries, and accounting reports.
- Pick a report type: summary, reconciliation (uncleared), ledger, debit list, credit list, cleared, non-cleared, all checks/deposits, or complete accounting.
- Set Date from / to (defaults: Jan 1 of this year → today), optional client, Sort by, payee, file #, and “checks only”.
- Use Print for a clean printout (firm name and print date appear on the report).
- From a client ledger, Ledger report opens Reports already filtered to that client.
Export CSV
Download your clients or transactions as a CSV file.
- Open Export (from Ledger toolbar or go to
/export). - Choose Transactions or Clients.
- Scope: All clients or One client only.
- Optional filters: date range, payee, file #, cleared status.
- Transaction CSV columns: TransDate, CName, ChkNo, PayTo, Details, Debit, Credit, Status.
Import
Bring existing desktop (or sample) data into the web app.
- Upload a desktop Export CSV, a clients template CSV, or a LawTrust .mdb file when supported on the server.
- Append adds to existing data; Replace wipes this workspace’s web clients/transactions first — use carefully.
- Each login (admin or team user) has its own clients and ledger. Import goes into the workspace you are signed in as (or View-as).
- Sample templates are linked on the Import page for practice.
Team users
Available to the account admin on Web plans with seats (2 / 3 / 4+ users). W1 is admin only.
- Open Team users in the sidebar (or footer). Seats used show as active team logins vs your plan limit.
- Add user — create a username, display name, email, and password. Each person gets their own trust data (clients, ledger, preferences). They cannot see each other’s data or billing.
- Edit — change name, email, username, or set a new password.
- View as — work in that user’s workspace. A banner shows “Viewing as…”. Use Go back to admin when finished. Billing stays hidden while View-as is on.
- Deactivate — blocks sign-in; keeps their data. Activate restores them if a seat is free.
- Delete — after confirmation, removes the login and all of that user’s clients, transactions, and preferences. Cannot be undone except from a backup.
- Your admin login stays in Client registration (Manage Clients). Team users are separate rows under your firm.
Account & renewal
- Admin only: firm name, username, email, plan, product access (Desktop / Web), and next renewal date.
- If you are on a Desktop plan during the Web trial, Account shows how many trial days remain.
- Renew or change Web plan — PayPal buttons for Web yearly plans (1 / 2 / 3 / 4+ users) are on this page, linked to your admin username. After PayPal confirms, sign out and back in to see new dates.
- Need Desktop instead? Use the Purchase page link (Desktop tab) from Account.
- Team users and View-as sessions do not see billing.
- If renewal is past due, a banner appears at the top with a link to renew.
Preferences
Firm defaults for currency, dates, and balance warnings — stored per login workspace.
- Business name — printed on reports (optional override of account firm name).
- Currency and date format for ledgers and reports.
- Balance not enough — warn only, or block debits that would overdraw a client.
- Default state / ZIP and ZIP rules for new clients.
Backup & Restore
Download or restore a full copy of your cloud workspace (the login you are using).
- Download backup — JSON file with clients, transactions, and Preferences for this workspace.
- Restore — upload that file; type
REPLACEto confirm. This deletes current web data for this workspace, then loads the backup.
Theme & sidebar
- Theme (moon icon) switches light / dark mode; your choice is remembered.
- On a large screen, the chevron on the brand collapses the sidebar to icons only.
- On phones/tablets, use the menu button to open the sidebar drawer.
- Sidebar footer (signed in): Account (admin), Team (admin), and Password.
Desktop-only features
These stay in the Windows app — Web covers the same day-to-day trust accounting without them.
- Check Top / Middle / Bottom layouts, Check Editor, custom check templates, and printer fonts.
- Local database path (
LawTrust.mdb), Error 70 lock help, and USB/Dropbox.mdbbackup. - MAC / “N Computers” seats — Web uses user seats instead.
Desktop download and the full Windows program manual: lawyertrustaccount.com/download.
Tips
- Day-to-day work happens on Trust Account: Deposit, Write Check, Client Master, and Ledger open as popups.
- Use opening deposit, archive/restore, C/NC, Un-clear All, Complete Accounting Report, import/export, and JSON backup as needed.
- Dates display in US format (e.g. Jan 15, 2025); amounts use dollars. Renewal and alert dates follow US time.
- Each team login is a separate books — do not expect a shared firm ledger across users.
